Along with awesome activities, there are also many great places to stay in Mooloolaba from epic luxury hotels to self catered accommodation for larger groups on the Sunshine Coast to sweet boutique hotels. Keep reading for the best accommodation options in Mooloolaba for every budget and type of traveller.

Mooloolaba’s Location

If you are not familiar with it, Mooloolaba is located about 1.5 hours drive from Brisbane and about an hour’s drive from Noosa.

You can visit on a day trip from Brisbane but it is recommended to stay at least 3 nights in Mooloolaba to really soak up everything the cute town on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast has to offer. Many people choose to stay a week or longer which is ideal to really relax and explore the surrounding area.

It is popular with people from New Zealand and we all know how picturesque New Zealand is so it must be pretty good 😉

Being 10 minutes drive from Alexandra Headlands and Maroochydore and 30 minutes drive to Maleny and Montville in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, it is the perfect base to explore the Sunshine State’s magical coastline and hinterland areas.

Where to stay in Mooloolaba?

Accommodation on Mooloolaba Esplanade **Best Place to Stay in Mooloolaba**

In our opinion, the single best place to stay in Mooloolaba is in accommodation on the Mooloolaba Esplanade, a street which is directly parallel to the Mooloolaba beach and has the majority of Mooloolaba’s best restaurants, bars and cafes on it.

Mooloolaba isn’t a big town so one end of Mooloolaba esplanade to another might only take you 20 minutes (max) to walk. For this reason, virtually anything you book right on Mooloolaba esplanade will be fine.

I know pretty much all the hotels on Mooloolaba esplanade and they are all okay. The Landmark Resort is a bit older these days but it’s still fine.

Boys at Christmas on Mooloolaba Beach. It’s very popular at Christmas and New Years eve so book in advance if you want these peak times.

Here are some of our individual recommendations:

This two bedroom apartment is located directly across the road from the famous Mooloolaba beach on Mooloolaba Esplanade.

This apartment is managed by the owner as part of the larger Windward Complex. I have family who recently stayed in this exact apartment and they preferred it to booking direct through the complex as it was more updated and had nicer furniture.

The apartment is upstairs, downstairs with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It includes all the essentials like a coffee machine, washing machine. It also has access to a communal swimming pool and BBQ area.

Note: This apartment is usually only available for longer stays (5+ nights) so if you want a shorter stay, we would recommend staying in the Windward Complex.

Accommodation in Alexandra Headlands

Alexandra headlands (or Alex as the locals would say) is so close to Mooloolaba you can literally walk. If you don’t find anything suitable in Mooloolaba, searching for accommodation in Alex is another good option.

Alexandra Headlands is a good location in its own right. I personally think the surf club at Alexandra Headlands beats the Mooloolaba surf club (and it’s cheaper).

The cool thing about Alex is that it tends to be a bit cheaper than Mooloolaba. It is also the best place to stay in Mooloolaba for surfers.
