Probably the best activity to do in the Sunshine Coast town of Mooloolaba is going for a swim or a surf at one of the best beaches in Queensland, the absolutely stunning Mooloolaba Beach.

Don’t miss watching a great orange sunset (they are particularly magic at Mooloolaba) from the surf club which overlooks the beach. Beers are affordable at only $6 off tap. The potato wedges are also highly recommended.

Go on a Whale Watching Cruise and even Swim with Humpback Whales

Along with Harvey Bay, Mooloolaba is one one of the best places in Australia to see humpback whales. Some tour operators in Mooloolaba actually even let you swim with the whales which is a pretty cool experience for the daredevil traveller.

Going to see the whales is not a cheap experience costing at least $120 a cruise and even more if you want the opportunity to swim with the whales. But how often can you say you got the chance to swim with humpback whales?! Definitely a bucket list experience and well worth the coin if you ask me.

During the cruise, you will spot whales and also dolphins swimming wild and free in the sea while they migrate annually between Australia and Antarctica. Visit SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Aquarium

Looking for things to do in Mooloolaba with kids? If you are visiting the coast with children, you definitely should not miss a visit to the Sea Life Aquarium.

Inside you will find 11 underwater exhibit zones, with lots of underwater life to see including sharks, stingrays and turtles and a cool underwater tunnel. There are also lots of fun presentations to watch throughout the day including seal and jelly fish kingdom talks, ray talk and feeding.

Enjoy Watersports including Boating, Stand up Paddle Boarding and Kayaking

If you find yourself in Mooloolaba between June – November we would highly recommend a trip to McMartin’s Farm where you can have heaps of fun picking your own strawberries. This is a great activity especially if you have kids as most kids absolutely love picking berries.

Located only 18 mins drive away, it is a great activity when you are sick of the beach. It is also a great place to go for adults as they serve seriously delicious scones with jam and cream. If you love ice cream don’t miss your chance to try the strawberry farm’s award winning ice cream.

Eat at some of the best restaurants in Mooloolaba

There are some really good restaurants in Mooloolaba that are worthwhile checking out. Two cool restaurants we would suggest going to in the area are the See Restaurant and Pier 33 Restaurant.

If you are staying in the area for a special occasion the See Restaurant is a good place to good as it serves high quality modern Australian seafood in an intimate dining room with ocean views.

Pier 33 Restaurant is probably one of the prettiest or instagrammable restaurants in the area and has similar vibes to The Pavillion at Burleigh which has similar vibes if you are into hipster spots.

Get Some much Needed R&R at the Salt Caves

The Salt Caves are one of the most popular places for couples to visit who are on a honeymoon or romantic getaway to Mooloolaba and need some relaxation from the stresses of everyday life. The Salt Caves are the perfect place to do this!

There are also lots of healing benefits to visiting a salt cave so if you have any inflammation or respiratory conditions, you can really justify the expense in visiting.

Make a Visit to Aussie World

Sure, the Sunshine Coast may not be home to some of Queensland’s biggest theme parks like Dreamworld and MovieWorld but if you have kids who love to visit a theme park, it is home to the cool Aussie World Theme Park.

It is a bit of a treat for the kids and it only costs $44 for an adult ticket which is much cheaper than the big theme parks on the Gold Coast. There is also a group of 5 pass for $198 – a pretty good price for a day of entertainment for the whole family.

Aussie World is a quick 15 minute drive from Mooloolaba beach.

Take a Trip to Caloundra

Only 17 minutes drive from Mooloolaba is another amazing beachside town in the Sunshine Coast – Caloundra. Caloundra has a sleepier vibe but it is still worth visiting if you are planning a longer vacation to Mooloolaba and are looking for fun day trips to make.

If you decide to visit Caloundra don’t miss a trip to the stunning Kings Beach, a popular destination for visitors and locals. Caloundra is a good spot for a BBQ or for getting some quality fish and chips as there are lots of tables to enjoy your purchased catch as you watch the sunset.
