If you are looking for more than just local produce, then you’ll want to visit Grower’s Green on the first Sunday of every month. That is the designated “Big Market” day, and transforms the already sizable farmer’s market into a wealth of customized finds: vintage clothing, homemade jewelry, unique crafts, handcrafted gifts and so much more. Going on an empty stomach? No worries as a rotating cast of food trucks will keep you stuffed!

If small town life is more appealing, then the Kalamunda Farmer Market might be more up your alley. Currently celebrating a decade of operations, you’ll find multiple stalls’ worth of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as craftsmen selling homemade soap, local spices and more. This is an especially good choice if you’ll be bringing any youngsters: family friendly vendors include face painters, fun and games and even live music to keep everyone happy.

Entertainment Date ideas: Date Night Ideas Perth
If you prefer more entertainment on your date, here are some places you can check out:
Galaxy Drive-In Cinema
One of the go-to ideas for a date, movies are always popular no matter your age. Take a trip down memory lane with a drive-in movie at Galaxy Drive-In Cinema. Not only is the Galaxy Drive-In Cinema Perth’s only drive-in movie theatre, but they are also known for their delicious café. Grab some snacks and maybe something from the gift shop before settling in for the feature presentation. Don’t forget double features on the weekend!
See the inside of one of Australia’s most frightening prisons, now with the convenient “no crime required” policy! Every Wednesday and Friday you can participate in a Torchlight Tour to ramp up the spookiness factor. You’ll also be supporting history as Freemantle Prison is one of eleven historic sites that makeup the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property.
Get your game on
If you fancy yourself gamers, then there’s no better place to show off your skill than at the Nostalgia Box. Australia’s only video game console museum, you’ll be able to impress your date with more than 100 consoles on display, many available to take for a test drive. If you’re going mid-week, aim for Wednesday: if you spend $20 at the bar, you’ll unlock the “unlimited gaming” achievement!
One art please!
The Art Gallery of Western Australia is just the place to impress a date with your profound knowledge of art. The major themes of the gallery include a celebration of diversity, a means to discover Western Australia as well as defining Western Australia’s place in the world. See the treasures of traditional owners of the ancestral land, waters and skies. There’s also digital guides, guided highlight tours as well as animal encounters and so much more.
Enjoy (smaller) Island Life
You already live on the world’s largest island; why not visit a smaller island? Rottnest Island is not only a great place to take in a sunset picnic but also chock full of adventures. Check out guided island tours, snorkeling excursions, bike trails, Swan River cruises, wild seafood experiences, Segway tours, skydiving and even sunset sailing! We’d say make a weekend out of it, but you might not have enough time to experience all of the offerings in only 48 hours!
Goanna Golf at Point Walter
Boasting a “million dollar course,” Goanna Golf features lush landscaping as well as a bevy of natural and manmade hazards, destined to have you seriously smiling or frustratingly frowning. The nine hole course features 2,605m worth of golfing area that consists of six par 4s, two par 3s and a par 5. Multi-function rooms make any sort of gathering a breeze including parties, events or even (gulp) weddings! The Grasslands Café has something on the menu for everyone including burgers and fries, snacks, salads and of course nachos!
Wembley Golf Course
They claim to be “Australia’s best mini-golf course,” and after a visit you’ll be hard pressed to disagree. A full 18-hole course that is meticulously landscaped will have you daydreaming about making the pro tour. Book time on the driving range, lessons from the pros, get your gear serviced or enjoy a bite to eat all at Wembley Golf Course.
Touted as Australia’s “craziest and most unique mini golf venue,” Holey Moley features a pair of venues. Westfield Carousel (all ages fun) and Northbridge (adults only). Release your inner Happy Gilmore as you encounter holes unlike any other mini-golf venue! For Northbridge visitors, the pop culture infused holes are even more entertaining after a drink (make it two) at the bar. If you’re after a more family friendly affair, there’s Strike Bowling available at Westfield after your links adventure is complete.
If “normal” mini golf sounds boring to you and your date, check out black light highlighted artwork while you golf in the dark at Glowing Rooms. Glow in the dark rooms, all in the comfort of air conditioning, are enhanced with vibrant scenes of both natural and supernatural creatures. There are light snacks and coffee at the café so be sure to come after dinner or plan on going to dinner after your glow in the dark experience.
Wanneroo Botanic Golf
While we’re on the subject of non-run-of-the-mill minigolf, have a soothing gold experience while visiting the Wanneroo Botanic Gardens. Featuring the largest outdoor course in Australia, Wanneroo mini golf is 36 holes of fun. They also feature “billiard” style mini golf (think pool meets mini golf) as well as outdoor light-up LED balls for late night fun.
Oasis Supa Golf / Adventure Putt
Located in beautiful Swan Valley, Oasis Supa Golf & Adventure Putt is mini golf fun for all ages! Fresh air and picturesque scenes frame the courses that may look normal at first glance but are anything but. Oversized putters, softer oversized golf balls and a shortened course make for some hilarious golfing hijinks. If traditional mini golf is more your style, then head over to Adventure Putt, where you’ll find a more “regulation” experience.
The Vines is a premiere golf and vacation resort but don’t let that fool you: there’s an 18 hole mini golf course on site as well. If you’re really into impressing your date, er, furthering your game, there’s even a mini golf league. With pools, spas and both traditional as well as café style dining, you can make an entire day trip at The Vines.
Chillisaurus Mini Golf
With glow in the dark scenery and 18 holes, Chillisaurus Mini Golf is for those seeking to escape the humdrum of “regular” minigolf. Another indoor and air-conditioned experience, anyone who is looking to learn more about the coolest dinosaur of all time need look no further than Chillisaurus Mini Golf! A full service café will keep you refreshed while posters with information about actual dinosaurs are sure to provide infotainment to children and adults alike.
Driving ranges, practice greens and mini golf await all visitors to family friendly Murdoch Pines. Near North Lake, the park is convenient to all of Perth. This is a much more traditionally configured mini golf environment, so if you’re looking for one on one coaching or group lessons, look no further than Murdoch Pines.
Surrounded by the tranquil Jarrah forest of Carmel, Masonmill Gardens is set on ten acres of natural beauty. If you get tired of mini golf, be sure to check out the craft shop, the fishpond or the expansive gardens. Kids will love the playground while the adults can discuss their eagles and brides at the Irish Village Beer Garden!
Cocktail Bar – Things to do at Night
Rodney’s Bait & Tackle
Set sail for relaxation at Rodney’s Bait & Tackle! Featuring a retired wooden ship as the centerpiece, Rodney’s Bait & Tackle is decorated with vintage fishing gear, local artwork and nautical memorabilia. At the core is the Maevon: a 30 foot long fishing vessel, rescued then restored by a pair of old tars. Check out the live music on most nights, vinyl-only DJs and of course a world-class collection behind the bar.
One of the more recent editions to Perth’s bar scene, Convenients’ claim to fame is being the only music venue constructed by (mostly) musicians! A call went out for local tradesmen and the rest as they say is history. When they are swinging a hammer, the original construction crew can be found shredding an ax at Convenients.
Envisioned as a modern-day speak easy, Convenients is hidden behind a freezer door in what appears to be a mild-mannered convenience store. Locally brewed beer and tasty burgers will keep you rocking into the night.
What’s the password? If you’re looking for a twist on the regular bar scene then look no further than Toots. One of the newer additions to Northbridge’s already lively nightlife, Toots is a blast from the past in more ways than one. Located at parts unknown within Chinatown, think of the speakeasys of the past and ask “Is Toots in?” If you’re in the correct spot, you’ll be given a golden ticket and shown the secret door. Beyond that door? Get ready to shake and hustle to a 70’s era disco! There’s a throwback Italian menu, coupled with a vintage drink menu and once you’ve had a bite and a shot, get ready to dance all night!
If secret handshakes and passwords are not on your agenda, then head over to Lucky Chan’s Laundry & Noodlebar, where a quick jaunt upstairs to the roof will take you to not only an Instagram-worthy view but also a hot new bar: Johnny Mo. Their claim to fame: a quarterly reset of both the theme and the cocktail menu so you’re sure to have a new experience on each and every visit.
If you’re looking for a side of Mexican with your drinks, look no further that Caballitos! Think a food truck with a bar…minus the truck! After spending a little time in Caballitos, and maybe sampling some of their two-hundred plus offerings of tequila and mezcal, you could probably convince yourself that you are in a cantina in old Mexico! For drinks and tacos, you can’t beat Caballitos!
If Rodney’s Bait & Tackle didn’t scratch your nautical itch, then perhaps a trip to Darling Darling will get your three sheets to the wind. Admittedly smaller than Rodney’s, Darling Darling takes its design cues from what appears to be an 1800s era pirate ship. No proper menu here, so this could be a good pre (or post) dinner date location. The locals rave about the margarita, though I’m not sure that can be considered a traditional pirate drink!
Hula Bula Bar
After a long day on the open seas, weigh anchor at Hula Bula Bar, a Polynesian-themed watering hole. Another on the list of smaller venues, Hula Bula Bar is known for famous rum-based tiki style drinks. If tropical drinks and island vibes are your jam, then head on down to Hula Bula Bar.
If you want to impress your date with world-traveling but can’t quite afford the traveling part, head on over to Alabama Song and party like the yanks! You’ll both feel like you were transported to cowboy country with all the deep-fried American style snacks you could wish for. Wash it down with a whiskey or rye and you’ll be line dancing until the wee hours!
Henry On Eighth
Another small bar that offers big fun is Henry On Eighth. Cozy ambience coupled with an attentive and welcoming staff make Henry’s something of a secret treasure. Decorated with local artwork and filled with music by local artists, you could spend a lot of time in Henry On Eighth before you realize it. A great bar, refreshing cocktail menu and delicious food will make for an unforgettable date. Don’t forget to book a chook!
“Good booze. Better times.” The self-proclaimed motto of Foxtrot Unicorn should be an open invitation to anyone seeking either option (or both)! An all star cast of Perth’s most awarded bartenders collaborate on a fantastic collection of fine spirits, vintage as well as new age cocktails, and a wine list to die for. Built in what was once a bank vault, this bar is truly a treasure.
Whether you’re on your first date or your 100th, Ronnie Nights would be perfect. Described by the locals as a “chill place for chill people,” Ronnie Nights’ is home to a cozy bar with a heaping side of vibrancy. The menu is enough bigger than regular bar fare to make this a meal stop but the beverage menu will remind you that you’re in a bar! Occasional DJs and other live music will keep you entertained, or head out to the patio for a big slice of people watching.
If you’re looking for pizza with extra vibe, look no further than Alfred’s Pizzeria. I’ve heard many people describe Alfred’s Pizzeria as the “hidden gem” of Perth and for more reason than one. You’ll have to head into a faux-phonebooth then downstairs for an unbelievable pizza menu and an equally impressive drink selection. Is it a pub or a pizzeria? Who can say. What we can say for sure is, it’s a good time!
Another hole in the wall that’s off the beaten path, Sneaky Tony’s is just down the alley, off of a backstreet, over in Chinatown. Once you find it, you’ll never want to leave! Named for famed rum-runner Tony “the hat,” this prohibition style bar carries over 300 bottles of rum from the far reaches of the planet. You’d be hard pressed to find a rum based cocktail that the staff at Sneaky Tony’s didn’t know how to pour!
Picnic date ideas
South Beach Recreation Reserve
Soak up some rays on South Beach! Nestled in between the trees, South Beach is one of the best beaches in all of Perth. The unique shape of the beach gives the water a lagoon feel, creating a natural barrier between swimmers and the notoriously large western Australian waves. Take a dip, then setup your picnic in the grass just off the beach for natural views and some people watching. There’s barbecue facilities, playgrounds, a basketball court and even a café serving light refreshments.
If the ocean is too expansive for you, turn inland towards the Swan River and lay out a spread at Mardalup Park. There’s plenty to do including fishing, people watching, watersports of all kinds and some privacy if you explore long enough. Head down after dusk for a perfect candle-lit picnic.
South Perth Foreshore
Home to the “iconic Perth selfie,” South Perth Foreshore is a perfect spot for a picnic. On the banks of the Swan River, go for a walk in green spaces on your first date, fire up the B-B-Q with your favorite someone, or take a romantic riverboat trek with you significant other. Beautiful views coupled with a light breeze from the Swan make this a great picnic date location.
The Zig Zag
Located in Gooseberry Hill National Park, the Zig Zag is a winding path that starts in Kalamunda and offers tranquil views of Western Australia. Closed to motor vehicles, you’ll only need to watch out for skaters, bikers and other hikers as you wind your way through the natural beauty. Sunsets are romantic anywhere but especially at the Zig Zag so pack a picnic and head on down.
John Oldham Park
In a secluded section not far from Mounts Bay Road, you’ll find a refreshing natural expanse in John Oldham Park. Watch the ducks (or people!) at the pond, check out the outdoor jungle gym, or throw a shrimp on the barbie at the cooking spot. Numerous walking and bike trials make for a good spot for exercising but there’s enough nature to make a beautiful picnic spot as well.
Just northwest of Perth you’ll find Clarko Reserve, a grassy beachside park with plenty of activities. A covered picnic area makes for a nice respite from the sun but there are plenty of shady areas to grab a bite. Playgrounds, bike paths and scenic views make for a fun day for anyone. There are a few local cafes just in case you forgot to pack something for the picnic and some local markets setup shop, depending on the weather.
A short trek inland from Perth, Mundaring Weir is a 20th century damn in the Darling Scarp. You won’t catch any waves here but get ready to get back in touch with nature. When you’re done with your picnic, take in some birdwatching (home for many exotics), take a nature hike or simply relax in the great outdoors. Picnic shelters and BBQ grills make for a great spot to spend an afternoon.
Another on the “just out of town,” list, John Forrest National Park is a perfect spot for a day trip from Perth. Pack a picnic and get ready for the beauty of nature to envelop you. Walking trails abound or, if you’re looking for something a little lower energy, check out the vistas from the lookout point. Waterfalls and wildlife are abundant (including the occasional kangaroo). Once the meal is done, head to a walking trail, bike paths, or playground.
Pizza Date Ideas
If you and your date love pizza, then look no further than Monsterella. Just off of Grantham St., Monsterella features 100% handmade dough that is risen for 48 hours. If the secret is in the sauce, then the secret is San Marzano tomatoes. Wood fired pizzas and a large choice of pastas will make you feel like you’re in Italy. BYO beer & wine (with a corkage fee) but don’t fret: Mummucc bar is just down the street for an after dinner cocktail.
Just beyond Lake Conger you’ll find Pappagallo, a local favorite for all things Italian. For the pizza lover, you’re getting Roman style pies and for the pasta aficionado, there’s high quality ingredients including linguine, gnocchi, even seafood. For all dishes, ingredients are brought in from Italy for that authentic taste.
Head back over to the coast and check out Canteen Pizza on your way. Their motto (“People Disappoint, Pizza is Eternal, In the Crust we Trust”) threw me for a loop at first but after your first bite, you’ll catch on quick. Catch some ocean views while you wait for your Neapolitan style pie. Pizza, pasta, salad and an impressive wine list will make this a special date night.
Situated in Hawaiian’s Mezz in Mount Hawthorn, Spritz Spizzicheria is the culmination of more than 25 years of restaurant experience. Pizza, pasta, soup and salad are all available. What sets Spritz Spizzicheria apart from the competition? Spizzicheria is Italian for “picking.” The owners hand pick ingredients as well as hand craft the menu, making for a great meal. Don’t forget to check out their impressive wine list on your next date there.
Situated in Highgate, Ischia is famed for featuring food inspired from the Gulf of Naples. The fresh seafood is really tops, especially while looking at the mural of the Gulf of Naples in the dining room. Don’t sleep on the pasta and where else can you order pizza by the meter! Ischia has everything to make your date a special time.
Biking trails date ideas: Romantic Perth Activities
Kalamunda Mountain Bike Park
The famed Kalamunda Hills are crawling with mountain biking trails. If you and your date want to get in a few laps, head over to Kalamunda Mountain Bike Park. There are trails perfect for beginners (try the Gottysnobble course), the middle of the pack types (Scorpion?) and even seasoned veterans (Lancaster). There’s something for everyone so grab your gear and head to Kalamunda.
Langford Park, Jarrahdale
While bike trails are the main attraction, Langford Park offers plenty of outdoor activities Hoof it on walking trails, go horseback on horse trails or ride up to one of the many picnic areas for a bite between laps. Surrounded by the greenery of the forest, there’s plenty of shade and cool breezes. Well maintained trails and facilities make this an ideal spot for a bike date.
